Describe the Data Set or Information Holding: A multi-part polygon dataset Great Lakes islands and island complexes (Ontario and United States). This dataset includes islands from Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, St. Marys River, Lake Huron, Georgian Bay, St. Clair River, Lake St. Clair, Detroit River, Lake Erie, Niagara River, Welland Canal, Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River.
The Intended Use and Purpose for Collecting the Data Set or Information Holding: Islands may be defined as natural, articial, reefs and submerged rocks that are periodically exposed. Limitations in the best available digital mapping will result in some low-lying islands, rocks and shoals not being distinguishable and therefore not designated as islands in this layer. This information was used to conduct an ecologically-based analysis to identify the islands and island complexes within the Great Lakes that are the highest priority for conservation action.
Describe any Restrictions and Legal Prerequisites for Accessing the Data Set (Data Privacy/Security):
Describe any Constraints for Using the Data Set: This data should not be redistributed without the consent of the Nature Conservancy of Canada or the Natural Heritage Information Centre/OMNR or The Nature Conservancy. If information from this layer is used (in the preparation of documents, presentations, analysis of creation of other data) the OMNR/NHIC, NCC and TNC should be acknowledged. The NHIC, NCC and TNC are not responsible for the accuracy and currency of the data sets provided for the Great Lakes island analysis.
